As we know very few about processors used in our handset, computers and, laptops So, today we will talk about the types of processors.

A chip that responds and processes the initial instructions for running a particular electric product is called a processor. The main functions of the processor are: Bringing, decoding, executing, and rewriting the activities of an instruction.

Processors are also called the brains of various electric products such as computers, laptops, smartphones, embedded systems, etc. The processor has two parts.ALU (Arithmetic Logic Unit) and CU (control unit).

Types of Processors

Different types of processors are used in different phones. But, Embedded systems have a variety of processors including the following.

MediaTek processor

MediaTek is one of the largest smartphone chip companies in the world. SOCs are based on the architecture of MediaTek ARM. These chips can be seen on various devices like Lenovo, Moto, Nokia, Xiaomi, Oppo, ZTE, Vivo etc.

MediaTek chips have significantly improved performance over the past. Helio P60 and Helio P22 chipsets are mid-range budget SOCs.

In 2019, MediaTek launched its Dimensionality series. Dimensity is a very powerful chipset. It can compete well with high-end Snapdragon and Exynos chips. MediaTek Dimensity 900U is more powerful than Qualcomm’s most powerful chipset Snapdragon 8Gen 1.

Helio G

It is a MediaTek chipset. Helio G has a series. The series includes high- and mid-range chipsets. For example Helio G25, G35 is mid-range and Helio G70, G80, G85, G90, G95 is high-range chipset.

Helio P

The Helio P series chipsets are mostly mid-range. Helio P series has many chipsets. There are many chipsets like Helio P10, P18, P20, P22, P23, P25, P30, P35, P60, P65, P70, P90, P95.

Helio A

Helio A22 is the first processor of MediaTek processor. So, it comes with impressive features like Bluetooth 5.0 and LPDDR4X memory.

Helio X

The MediaTek Helio X series was a high-range chipset. It is used in the flagship series of high-end smartphones. It is thought to be the equivalent of the Snapdragon 800 series.

MediaTek has not released any new SOCs since the launch of the X30. So I can’t compare the Helio X series with any other advanced processor.

Qualcomm Snapdragon Processor

Snapdragon is a chip designed for mobile devices. It is marketed by Qualcomm. Snapdragon processor is currently used in almost all the phone companies in the market.

Snapdragon’s mid-range chipset is much better than MediaTek’s mid-range chipset. Snapdragon processors are usually gaming processors. That is why there is so much demand for this processor in the present age.

But now MediaTek has overtaken Snapdragon. So Qualcomm Snapdragon needs to bring a better processor to the market than MediaTek.

HiSilicon Kirin Processor

High silicon is known as the largest domestic designer of integrated circuits in China. HiSilicon Kirin processor’s chips are based on the architecture of ARM. They apply ARM’s CPU design (Cortex CPUs) and GPU design (Mali GPUs) directly to their SOC.

HiSilicon Kirin’s most advanced series is Kirin 9000 series. This processor has some more chipsets. These include Kirin 900 series, Kirin 800 series, Kirin 700 series, Kirin 600 series, etc.
Samsung Processor

Samsung has only one processor called Exynos. So, Exynos is the name of a series of SOCs made by Samsung. But, Exynos processors are mainly found on Samsung Galaxy devices. Like other processors, Exynos processors use ARM’s architecture and power Android devices.

Global variants of Samsung Galaxy devices are powered by Exynos series processors. However, the US variant uses Samsung’s Qualcomm’s Snapdragon processor.

From Exynos 7570 to Exynos 2100 the processor has been gradually improved and its popularity has also increased. Again Samsung is going to launch their new Exynos chipset very soon named Exynos 2200.

The processors I have talked about so far are used in Android phones. But now I will talk about the processor of Apple phone.

Apple Processor

A series of processors with a chip (SoC) and a package of systems (SiP) is called Apple Silicon. Apple Silicon Processor Apple Inc. Designed It is mainly used by ARM architecture.

This processor is used in products such as Mac computers, iPhones, iPads, Apple TVs, Apple Watch AirPods, HomePods, iPod Touches, and AirTags. Towards the end of 2021, Apple Mac computers will abandon Intel processors and start using Apple Silicon processors.

All of Apple’s products are now based solely on their processors. Apple has released several series of their chipsets.

A series

Some of Apple’s A-Series chipsets are no longer produced or used. Apple’s A series chipset is used in Apple phones. There are also chipsets that were launched several years ago, but their use is still notable.

Such as: A4, A5, A5X, A6, A6X, A7, A8X, A9, A9X, A10X Fusion, A11, A12X Bionic, A12Z Bionic. Again, the use of A8, A10 Fusion, A12 Bionic, A13 Bionic, A14 Bionic, A15 Bionic chipsets is still seen in Apple products.

S series

Apple’s S series chipset has not come out. But, the Production of S1, S1P, S2, S4, S6 chipsets in this series is now discontinued. Again S3, S5, S7 chipsets are still in production.

T series

Only 2 chipsets of Apple’s T series have come out. These chipsets are made for MacBooks only. Production of both T1 and T2 chipsets is now discontinued.

W series

Apple has released 3 chipsets of the W series. usually, the W series chipset is used in the Apple Watch. But W1 is used in AirPods and select Beats headphones. Also, The W3 chipset is used in Apple Watch Series 3 and the W3 chipset is used in Watch Series 4.

H series

Do you know that the only chipset in the Apple H series was the H1. Apple’s chipset was used on AirPods Pro.
U series

The Apple U1 appears on the iPhone 11 and later on the first generation iPhone SE, Apple Watch Series 6 and Series 7, HomePod Mini, and AirTag trackers.

M series

Apple’s M series chipset is used in Mac computers. It was first discovered in 2019. Also, the M1, M1 Pro, and M1 Max chipsets in this series have been used on Mac computers.
